I took part in the activities within the framework of the Action “Artistic Intelligence – Responsiveness, Accessibility, Responsibility, Equity” (ARTinRARE) CA23158, carried out by European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) and funded by the European Union, between 01/05/2026 and 29/06/2026.
This Action proposes an open, holistic, and integral approach to outlining the complex challenges of art, culture, and creativity, while aiming to demonstrate, highlight, and evaluate their multiple connections to other forms of knowledge production in open and transparent ways. The main aim of the Action is to advance the (re-)integration of artistic research and conventional research methods to benefit all forms of knowledge production. By convening cross-disciplinary networks, this project coordinates the integration of new computational techniques, such as machine learning and artificial intelligence, into practice-based research across the arts.
The working groups I was a member of within this international network, and the main issues they focused on, were as follows:
- Adaptation Strategies (WG1): This working group aims to map the challenges resulting from digitisation and automation in the cultural and creative sectors, as well as the problems that the approaching new technological wave will bring; it focuses on outlining adaptation strategies that involve and engage with interdisciplinary artistic research.
- Collective Intelligences (WG2): In this group, which investigates the value and impact of collective intelligences and shared agencies between human and non-human actors; it is aimed to identify and evaluate concepts, capacities, and contributions nourished by art, culture, and creativity towards a shared notion of “artistic intelligence”.
- Policy-Making and Recommendations (WG4): In this group, it is aimed to collect and evaluate policy documents at national and European levels that seek to regulate the impact of generative artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data on the cultural and creative sectors.
